The historic city of Tzefas has grown today into a thriving residential city with a population nearing 40,000 residents. The majority, around 35,000, live in the newer residential areas with a few thousand living in the Old City itself. Tzefas has a mixed population, with a growing number of Chareidim alongside national-religious, traditional and some secular residents.
The Chareidi population of Tzefas has mushroomed in the last 15 years. R’ Yoel Berman remembers the Kollel situation in Tzefas 20 years ago as a few kollel yungerleit learning here and there, today there are hundreds of yungerleit learning across the city and even kollels which boast over a hundred avreichim.

Tzefas is know for it’s flourishing Chassidic community which includes Sanz, Biala, Seret-Viznitz, Lelov, Chernobel, Sadigura, Rivnitz, Breslov and Chabad. A large percentage of the Chassidim live in the Maor Chaim section of the Darom neighborhood with more families spread out in other parts of the neighborhood. Cheders that serve the Chassidic population include Sanz, Biala, Bat Ayin, Rivnitz, Tachaver, Breslov and Chabad. Tachaver was the only cheder 20 years ago serving the general chassidic population so the flourishing of so many other chadarim demonstrates the rapid growth of the community. The Rav of the Sanz kehillah is Rav Reich, and Rav Dovid Osko is the posek for the kehilla. Both these Rabbanim speak English. The Breslov and Chabad communities are of note as both are large and growing communities. The Breslov community’s cheder, Magen Avot, is one of the largest in the city with 500 boys. The biggest Breslov shul, Pa’ar Netsach, located in the Maor Chaim area hosts a large kollel with 150 avreichim called Kollel Amelim. The Breslov community also has their own girl’s school, called Derech Yehudit, with around 450 girls.

Litvish Community
The Litvish community in Tzefas todaynumbers approximately 470 families. The community is centered around Rav Dov Kaplan’s Yeshivas Tzefas mosdos. The mosdos began about 15 years ago and have grown tremendously in the short time span since their establishment. Yeshivas Tzefas includes a kollel of 85 avreichim, of whom about 10 are Anglos. The boys Cheder with a few hundred students is under the same name as the kollel and is located in the same building. Many of the talmidim from the cheder join the kollel for Mincha after the first seder. Next to the cheder is the girls gan that is connected to Rav Kaplan’s mosdos. Yeshivas Tzefas mosdos also run a girls school under the name Maalos Hadassah with about 200 girls and a girl’s seminary. There are a number of other Litvish kollelim including a Sorotzkin kollel. Until recently Litvish families would send their older boys to yeshivas outside of the city but this past Alul, the yeshiva ketana, Revavos Ephraim, opened in the Old City of Tzefas with Rav Goldberg as mashgiach and Rav Bloy as Rosh Yeshiva. Rav Goldberg also serves as Mashgiach of Rav Druck’s yeshiva gedolah in Yerushalayim. Currently the yeshiva includes 17 bachurim, mostly from Tzefas families but 50 boys are already registered for the next zman and the yeshiva has plans to continue expanding. Rav Yitzi Friedman, an English-speaking Meshiv at the yeshiva ketana spoke highly of Rosh Yeshiva Bloy’s aspirations for the yeshiva. Rav Friedman shared that Rosh Yeshiva has a unique derech where he is able to inspire the leading bachurim to grow while lifting up the bachurim who are finding the learning more challenging. Many Rabbanim from around the country have taken the time to visit and learn from the style of Rosh Yeshiva Bloy and his yeshiva. While the majority of the community’s mosdos are in or surrounding the Old City, the families live in the Darom residential neighborhood about a 15 minute walk from the Old City.
Sephardi Communities
The Sephardim have their own mosdos as well including the large Alkabetz and Pirchei Kehunah chederim. The Alkabetz kollel is a well known Sephardi kollel. Sephardi shuls are also spread throughout the city predominantly in the Old City.
More
Rav Goldstein, an American Rav, lives with his family in the center of Yerushalayim street, the main tourist thoroughway in the Old City. The family moved three and a half years ago from Boro Park where Rav Goldstein was a Dayan on a Bais Din. Rav Goldstein shared that the Kedusha of Tzefas is different than the Kedushah of Yerushalayim. While Yerushalayim is associated with aish, fire, Tzefas is associated with ruach, wind, and the Rav feels that this translates into Tzefas being a very soothing and ‘chilled out place’. Rav Goldstein shared that “the clarity of thought here is a’yom v’norah” and that “‘kochi v’otzem yadi’ does not exist in this place.” He explains that the city has tremendous kedushah and offers real potential for growth but the motivation has to come from within the person. Rav Goldstein did share that the area he is living in is a tourist hotspot and suggested that living in the more Chareidi neighborhoods in Tzefas of Canaan and Darom would be a different experience. Rav Goldstein shared that living in the Old city is really for a family that is individualistic and does not need to be surrounded by a kehillah structure.

Agan HaAyalot (Hebrew: ####), also known as Giv'at Ze'ev HaChadashah (Hebrew: #### גִּבְעַת זְאֵב), is a Chareidi neighborhood located in the Giv'at Ze'ev municipal district, at the northern edge of the greater Yerushalayim area.

There are two entrances to Agan HaAyalot. One by driving through Giv'at Ze'ev and continuing through until Again HaAyalot. The other entrance is directly from route 443. Agan HaAyalot is approximately 6 minutes from Ramot and 15 minutes from the center of Yerushalayim.

Giv'at Ze'ev houses about 5,000 families and 20,000 residents. Agan HaAyalot is a separate neighborhood a few minutes drive from Giv'at Ze'ev with a little over 900 families.

The community is close to Yerushalayim but is known to be a relaxed and quiet community.

Pictures of Agan HaAyalot

History
The neighborhood was built in 2004.

Population
Over 900 families have already made their homes here. Anglos estimated at 25%-30% of the population, mostly Yeshivish or Chassidish. There are several families of Ba'alei Teshuvah who are very well integrated. The neighborhood is home to a large Belz community of 200 families, of which 5%-10% are Anglos.

Most men learn in kollel and some work part time in various yeshivos and seminaries, while many women work to support their families. Some immigrants continue working their American jobs from home.

In most families here, the men who work were first in kollel for a few years.

Rabbonim
Rav Wittenstein, who is American, is rav of many Anglo families, although his shul functions officially in Hebrew.

Rav Ephraim Landy, also American, is the Rav of Aderes Eliyahu.

Rav Horowitz is a Chassidish rav who has two shuls catering to the Israeli bnei yeshivos.

Rav Golan and Rav Kahana have a more balebatish crowd.

There are 4 Sefardic rabbanim, including one Moroccan.

Shuls
Aderes Eliyah, is an American style shul where most of the members are anglo speakers including the Rav, Rav Ephraim Landy. The official language of the shul is Hebrew. About 75 families are connected to the shul.

Minyan Avreichim is another Asheknazi yeshivish shul where a number of anglos attend. The shul also houses a kollel under the auspicies of Rav Zilberstein.

Belz shul and beis midrash

Chinuch
There are three cheiders - one Sefardic and two Litvish. The two Litvish cheiders are call Givas Oilam and Darchei Moshe. All three are Yeshivish Israeli Hebrew-speaking. There is also a Belz cheider and gan (preschool), and they also have their own classes in the local Bais Yaakov.

Girls attend the local Bais Yaakov which also has separate English classes. There are many gans and daycares; government funded and private. The local schools integrate the students very well into Israeli Chareidi society.

A yeshiva gedolah recently opened in the community called Migdal Oz, with a new campus spread out over a few small buildings.

Groups & Programs
There are Daf Yomi and gemara shiurim, and a kollel also for balebatim.

The local N'shei hosts various programs, shiurim, and classes for women.

There are also learning programs for children.

Geography & Climate
Agan HaAyalot is in a valley. The weather is a few degrees lower than Yerushalayim.

In general there is a nice breezy wind.

Housing
There are many apartment buildings with six to eight units. There are also many semi-detached houses and duplexes with private entrances. Every house has a yard or large porch.

A typical apartment can cost anywhere between 1.5 - 2.5 million NIS, depending on the size.

Rent ranges between 3,000-6,000 NIS.

Transportation
It's a 13-14 kilometer drive to Yerushalayim.

There are 3 different bus lines/routes. On busy hours buses run about every 10-15 minutes. It is approximately a 10 to 15-minute bus ride to the shopping mall in Ramot, and a half-hour bus ride to Ramat Eshkol. The local transportation is quick and very reliable.

By car, it's just over 10 minutes to Ramot and about 20 minutes to the Mir Yeshiva.

Though owning a car definitely makes traveling easier, it is not a necessity.

Employment
Shopping
The shopping center includes a large supermarket, Shefa Birchas Hashem, that provides freshly stocked goods, a seforim store, a toy store, socks store, shekel store, sheitel macher, and stationery shop.

There is also a Mishnat Yosef initiative and Mechira Schunatit. (Programs where families order there groceries and there is a delivery for the whole community to a local pick up point once a week and families come and pick up their orders.)

Medical Services
There is a branch of Meuhedet including a pharmacy, and a branch of Klalit.

Community Codes and Standards
Absorption
Why Agan HaAyalot?
Enjoy the great quality living, suburban open space, and a wonderful residential atmosphere which includes all the community services required by large frum families.

Tel Zion (Hebrew: תל ציון), established in 2000, is a Chareidi yishuv in the Binyomin region that borders a religious zionist community called Kochav Ya’akov. Tel Zion is about 10 minutes north of Yerushalayim's Pisgat Ze'ev and Neve Yaakov neighborhoods and 25 minutes north of the center of the city.

Pictures of Tel Tzion

History:
Tel Zion was established in 1990 by a Viznitz entrepreneur, Rabbi Kosover was chosen as the the Mara D'asra and a mainly Chasidish kehilla was built. Due to lack of growth the Chasidish community dwindled, and when the permits expired, a group of sephardim saw the potential and marketed apartments to the sephardic community. Until around 2017 the town was predominantly sefardi, however Rabbi Shalom Koledetzki, seeing the potential for cheaper housing for yungerlite, marketed 400 units to kollel bnei Torah, shifting the dynamic to a more balanced community, with the Ashkenazim equaling nearer to half of the town's population.

Population:
Currently the town boast approximately 1350 families, around 60% Sephardi families and 40% Ashkenazi. There is also a Chabad community of around 50 families.

There is a sense of achdus between the different streams of Chariedim represented in Tel Tzion (Litvish, Chassidish, and Sephardi). This was even noted by Rav Shlomo Amar who visited the yishuv a few years ago.

The majority of Ashkenazim are younger kollel families but multiple people noted that working men are also respected and feel part of the community.

The town was built in three sections. The first section was originally built in the 1990's, and the next two projects were built more recently, one about 7 years ago and another just 3 years ago.

The majority of residents learn or work in Yerushalayim. Unlike other Yishuvim in Binyomin, the majority of residents in Tel Tzion are not settled there for ideological reasons but rather for the affordability and proximity to Yerushalayim. However, the residents connection to the area and their sense of belonging has been growing every year.

There is a sizeable anglo population in Tel Tzion but they are fully integrated into the Israeli community. Many of the leaders of the community are American or English-speakers including the three leading Ashkenazi Rabbanim, the Gabbai of Kupat Hatzdaka (R' Daniel Heyman), and the leader of the children's after school program (R' Shmuel Goodman).

Residents describe Tel Tzion as having a relaxed, out-of-town feel without the social pressure that may be found in other areas. There is a sense of community and residents participate in each other's simchas.

Residents enjoy the local hiking trails and springs in close proximity to Tel Tzion. In Beit El, a 15 minutes drive away, there is a petting zoo that children enjoy visiting.

The three main roads in Tel Tzion are called, Ahavas Shalom, Ahavas Emes, and Ahavas Yisroel.
Rabbonim:
There Is one Ashkenazi Mora Deasra, Rabbi Avraham Goldberg, alumnus of Ateres, and Mot"z on the Ahavat Shalom Beis Din. Rabbi Goldberg speaks English fluently.

Rav Frankenthal, Rav of Kochav Yaakov and Rosh Kollel. Rav Frankenthal is originally from America and was a talmid of Rav Dovid Feinstein zt"l.

Rav Yechezkel Sharfer, Rav of the Chassidic shul. Rav Sharfer is originally from Monsey and also an English-speaker.

Rabbi Ochna

Rabbi Dabush

Shuls
The Ashkenazi Community boasts 2 main shuls, both under the auspices of Rabbi Avraham Goldberg, Avi Ezri and Beis Moshe, both are of similar nature, but each mainly serves their local area. Beis Moshe was built liluy nishmas a niftar in the Meron tragedy. Both the main shuls host a night kollel open to all residents of the yishuv.

Recently there has been a third ashkenazi minyan on Shabbos, established in the girls' school since the main shuls are B"H reaching capacity.

There are around 11 Sefardi Shuls each with their unique flavor.

There is 2 Chassidish Shtiblach, one serving as the minyan factory during the week for the whole community, and the other only has minyanim on shabbos.

Rabbi Yeshayahu Alporovitz heads the Chabad community and shul in Tel Zion. His wife is an English speaker.

In the last few years a number of Kollelim have opened up in Tel Tzion including a branch of the Mir Yeshiva with about 20 avreichim.

Two new Kollelim were established under the directive of Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky. Rabbi Noe is the leader of the younger members, together with full support of Rabbi Goldberg.

Rav Frankenthal, the Rav of Kochav Yaakov, runs a community Kollel in the shul Neve Hadar Tzion where most of the avreichim are from the Tel Tzion neighborhood. Avreichim learn with baalebatim from Kochav Yaakov and runs programs for the children.
Chinuch
There is an English-speaking Gan but the language of instructions in the elementary schools is Hebrew.

There is a Cheder for the Ashkenazi litvish population called Ayales Hashachar. The vast majority of Ashkenazi families send their boys to this school.

There are two Sephardi chederim in Tel Tzion as well. The large cheder is called Chanichei HaYeshivot - Darchei Moshe.

There is a Yeshiva Ketana (Sephardi) called Beit Yosef Safra.

There is one Beis Yaakov elementary school which serves both the Ashkenazi and Sephardi populations. There is a school for the older girls which is mostly Sephardi since the Ashkenazi families in the community tend to be younger.

There is a Chabad preschool and a Chabad elementary school for girls through 8th grade and boys until bar mitzva. There is also an option to send children on organized buses to school in Jerusalem.

Groups & Programs
There is a 2 boy youth programs, one Litvish and one Sephardi.

The Litvish program, V'Chol Bonayich is lead by R' Shmuel Goodman (American).

There is an English speaking Nishei with over 60 English-speaking women on the list.

Geography & Climate
Situated in the mountains around Yerushalayim, the Gesher Hameitarim and the rest of the Jerusalem skyline is clearly visible, including Belz.

It can get quite windy in the winter, but in the summer the breeze is greatly appreciated; there is little humidity.

Housing
Prices as of December 2022:
Shopping
There is one local makolet, Shefa Birkat Hashem in Tel Tzion and Yenot Bitan in neighboring Kochav Yaakov.

A 5 minute bus ride away in Shaar Binyamin there are 2 Supermarkets, Rami Levi and Maayan2000. There is also a branch of the pizza store, Uri's Pizza.

There is a Tambur in Kochav Yaakov, and many home stores, from clothing to diapers.

Mishnat Yosef [a communal Mechira with competitive prices] sports 2 locations, with the sale every Monday night.

There is also a Mechiron Haschunatit also has a regular delivery. This program is similar to Mishnat Yosef where families order their groceries and all the groceries are delivered to a central location for pick up.
Medical Services
There is a Meuhedet, Tipat Chalav and pharmacy, Klalit and Leumi also have offices here.

Community Codes and Standards
There are not set standards for the community but the residents tend to be more conservative in their dress and use of technology.

Absorption
Why Tel Tzion?
Affordable pricing, proximity to Yerushalayim. Opportunity to be around other anglos while still integrating into the Israeli system. Relaxed environment and sense of community.

More
"Tel Zion is home to about 1,000 families, with a population of about 6,000 people. The yishuv is currently growing and there are about 400 new housing units under construction. In addition, the management of the yishuv is advancing plans for additional commercial areas and construction. The outline plan for the yishuv has the potential for about 7,000 housing units, and the yishuv and the regional council are working to speed up processes in order to reach this goal.

Tel Zion is an ultra-Orthodox community-style yishuv. This is expressed by the activities that are organized for all of the residents – men, women, teens, and children, special events and various cultural programming. The yishuv is home to various distinct communities, but despite their differences, all of the residents are connected like one, big community.

Public transportation to Tel Zion is one of the most developed in the country, both in terms of the frequency of buses and in the manner that it is conducted.

There are several kollels in the yishuv, with hundreds of avreichim who sit and learn all day long. The schools are the pride of the yishuv, and almost all of them are in permanent buildings. There are currently: 4 Talmudei Torah for boys, a Bais Yaakov for girls, kindergartens, daycares and many private playgroups, a seminar for high school girls, a yeshiva ketana, a yeshiva gedola. There are also 13 synagogues surrounded by cohesive, organized communities.

There are three kupat cholim health clinics, a supermarket, and other stores.

It is noticeable how much the local residents love the yishuv. "[from Mate Binyamin Website]

Ramat Giv'at Ze'ev is a new neighborhood developed in 2013 between Givat Ze'ev and Agan HaAyalot. Ramat Giv'at Ze'ev (RGZ) is a Chareidi neighborhood located in the Giv'at Ze'ev municipal district, at the northern edge of the greater Yerushalayim area.

Giv'at Ze'ev houses about 5,000 families and 20,000 residents. RGZ is a separate neighborhood a few minutes drive from Giv'at Ze'ev with a few hundred families.

The community offers a high standard of living, including state of the art apartments and parks.

The 400 housing units include both single-family houses and multi-family apartment buildings. The development was marketed towards English-speaking religious Jews making Aliyah to Israel.

Population
The community is comprised mainly of Sephardim and American ashkenazim. The population is estimated to be about 30% anglo.

There are a number of middle aged/empty nesters from America who bought apartments in the community and live in RGZ part of the year. On Yom Tov when most of the families come into town there is a noticeable difference in the size of the community,

The kehillah is mainly baalebatim with a few avreichim.

Rabbonim
Rav Aharon Bar Chaim gives daf yomi shiur in the Sephardi shul

Rav Avi Horowitz gives a shiur in the Ashkenazi shul (English-speaker)

Shuls
There are two sephardi shuls.
There is an Ashkenazi American Kollel with 13 avreichim, run by Rav Tzvi Rodinsky originally from Monsey. The Kollel is located in a shul run by the Chabad Rabbi of the community.

The main Ashkenazi shul, Ohel Avraham, has daily minyaim and on Shabbat the minyan there is about 100 people.

Chinuch
The kollel hosts a night seder for the whole community Thursday nights.

Geography & Climate
RGZ is in a valley. The weather is a few degrees lower than Yerushalayim.

In general there is a nice breezy wind.

Housing
Transportation
You can live without a car here, but it does make life easier.
It's a 13-14 kilometer drive to Yerushalayim.

By car, it's just over 10 minutes to Ramot and about 20 minutes to the Mir Yeshiva.

Employment
Shopping
RGZ has it's own retail stores and makolet.

In Agan HaAyalot a few minutes away there is a large supermarket, Shefa Birchas Hashem, that provides freshly stocked goods, a seforim store, a toy store, socks store, shekel store, sheitel macher, and stationery shop.

There is also a Mishnat Yosef initiative and Mechira Schunatit. (Programs where families order there groceries and there is a delivery for the whole community to a local pick up point once a week and families come and pick up their orders.)

Tel Zion (Hebrew: תל ציון), established in 1990, is a Chareidi yishuv in the Binyomin region that borders a religious zionist community called Kochav Ya’akov.

Charish is located on green hills close to the Iron interchange on Highway 6, at a height of 110 meters above sea level. The city is a driving distance of 10 minutes from Pardes Hanna-Karkur, 15 minutes from Caesarea, 40 minutes from Haifa, 40 minutes from Bnei Brak, 50 minutes from Tel Aviv, and 1 hour 15 minutes to Yerushalayim.

Charish is a new city with the vast majority of buildings built within the past 10 years. The infrastructure of the city was designed with modern urban planning with full WiFi coverage and its own fiber optic cables, LED streetlights with sensors, camera-equipped lampposts, and smart trash cans that signal trucks through the Internet when they need to be emptied. The city was planned to ensure efficient and full use of the area, and includes a large number of greenery, and a fully-developed public transport infrastructure. Most of the city is within walkable distance of large green forests. Residents enjoy the nearby opportunities for hiking and nature.

Charish contains 5 neighborhoods which are very walkable with finished sidewalks and pathways. The city can be walked from one side to the other in about 40 minutes. Each neighborhood has a name and the street names in each neighborhood correspond to the name of the neighborhood. For example, the street Sapir (Sapphire) is in the neighborhood of Avnei Chen (Precious Gems) and the street Narkis (Daffodil) is in the neighborhood HaPrachim.
Population
During 2022, the number of citizens living in Charish reached 35,000. Within the next 2-3 years, at least 50,000 residents are expected to live in Charish, and the population is expected to number about 100,000 residents in the next decade. The city's population is mixed with residents across the religious spectrum. In 2022, 21.2% of the students in the education system in Charish were Chareidi, 36% were National-Religious, and 42.7% were secular/traditional. Walking around Charish today the general population tends to be traditional, and national religious with a growing Chareidi presence. It is estimated that the Chareidi population will continue to grow and in the years to come comprise a significant portion of the city’s population.

Newcomers to the community mention the warmth of the residents and the excitement that is felt in the air of being part of building a new city in Israel. Olim Chadashim say that since the community is new and a vast majority of residents have been there only a couple years this creates an environment where everyone is looking to meet new friends and connect.

There are currently approximately 2,000 Chareidi families throughout the city. 1,000 of those families arrived in Charish in the past year alone.

There are numerous Anglo residents but no specific Anglo kehilla. In addition to the numerous national-religious communities throughout the city, there are estimated to be about 15 shul buildings used by chareidim, and an additional 100 minyanim which take place in other rented spaces.

Rabbonim
Rav Shmuel Reisner, the Rosh Kollel of Yeshiva HaRan is the Mara D’Atra of the Ashkenazi-litvish community.

Rav Asher Zigdon leads the Sephardi shul and kollel called L’Ovdecha B’Emet.

Rav Shlomo Ifrach , a talmid of Rav Zafrani, also leads a Sephardi Kollel.

Shuls
Ashkenazi-Litvish Community

There is an Ashkenazi Litvish Bnei Torah community of about 300 young families. Rav Reisner, the Rosh Kollel of Yeshiva HaRan is the Mara D’Atra of this community. Many of these families are Kollel families and a number of the avreichim learn in the Sorotzkin Yeshiva in the Ahavas Torah shul. The Sorotzkin Kollel in Charish opened a year and a half ago and now includes over 70 avreichim. This community is very young with most of the children not yet in elementary school. The community has their own gan and is looking into opening up First grade for the coming school year. The few families in this community with older children send their children to Talmud Torah Chazon Shimon (Sephardi) and Beis Yaakov, or to schools in neighboring cities such as Zichron Yaakov and Chadera. The Ashkenazi Litvish community is centered in the B’Savta neighborhood but there are also families living in other neighborhoods throughout the city who associate with this community.

Sephardi Communities

In the Avnei Chen neighborhood, there is a Sephardi shul and kollel called L’Ovdecha B’Ames under the leadership of Rav Asher Zigdon. The community is concentrated in the Avnei Chen neighborhood and many of the children attend the Chazon Shimon Talmud Torah and Beis Yaakov in the neighborhood.

In the Ma’Ouf neighborhood, there are a few dozen sephardi Ben Torah families centered around Rav Shlomo Ifrach’s Kollel.

In the Choresh neighborhood, there are also two Sephardi shuls which house kollels, Ahavat Chayim and Sephardi Merkazi.

Chassidic Communties

There is a Klal Chasidic community of about 50 families which has their own minyan and yiddish schools.

There are also about 20 Toldos Aharon Chasidic families who recently moved to the community.

There is also a Chabad shul and small Breslov community.

There are 5 neighborhoods in Charish, each with their own flavor:

#Choresh

Choresh is the largest neighborhood in Charish. There are many charedi families spread out throughout this neighborhood. Two of the main shuls in Choresh are the Ahavas Chayim shul which houses the Chasdei Avos Kollel of 27 avreichim and the Sephardi Mercazi Beit Knesset which houses another kollel with about 20 avreichim. There is also a Litvish minyan on Shabbat in this community. As opposed to the minyan in B’Savta which is mostly avreichim, the litvish minyan in Choresh is composed of Baalei Batim as well as a number of avreichim.

Many of the Breslov community daven in this neighborhood in “Chanichei HaYeshivos - Mercaz Choresh”.

Mayaan 2000, the large Chareidi supermarket, recently opened a new store in the Choresh neighborhood.

On the main faraway between the neighborhoods Choresh and Avnei Chen there is a shul with many French Olim.

#Avnei Chen

A section of Avnei Chen has the largest concentration of Chareidim in one area. The main shul in this neighborhood is L’Ovdecha B’Emet under the leadership of Rav Zigdon. The shul is Sephardi and includes many Baalei Teshuva. The Talmud Torah Chazon Shimon and Beis Yaakov are both located in Avnei Chen. Near the shul and schools is the large supermarket Mayaan 2000 which caters to the Chareidi population.

Two projects are underway here. One is chareidi only, with 70 apartments; and the other has some buildings exclusively for chareidi families, and others that are mixed. This second project adds another 80 chareidi families to the area.

#B’Savta:

B’Savta is a smaller neighborhood which hosts the Ahavas Torah shul. The Sorotozkin Kollol, Ateres Shlomo, with over 70 avreichim is located in the Ahavas Torah shul. The majority of Litvish avreichim that live in Charish live in the B’Savta neighborhood. The Toldos Aharon and Klal Chasidic communities are also concentrated in this neighborhood. The B’Savta neighborhood currently houses 1500 families, the majority of whom are national religious or Chareidi. Another project of 270 apartments is close to completion, which will add 160 chareidi families to B’tzavta.

#HaPrachim:

HaPrachim neighborhood is another smaller neighborhood adjacent to B’Savta and within a short walking distance. A main shul in the HaPrachim neighborhood is Ahavas Yisrael where Rav Shmuel Reisner, the Mara D’Atra of the Litvish community, leads the Yeshivas HaRan kollel. The Kollel includes about 20 avreichim. HaPrachim is a more secular neighborhood but a number of Chareidim live there due to it’s close proximity to the community in B’Savta.

A new project into which most families have moved adds another 80 chareidi families to his neighborhood, at the section that borders B’tzavta. Another project of 120 units exclusively for chareidi families is in construction.

#Ma’Ouf

In the Ma’Of neighborhood there is a Sephardi Kollel under the leadership of Rav Shlomo Ifrach, a talmid of Rav Zafrani. Approximately 100 Chareidi families are

currently living in this neighborhood.

Chinuch
The largest Chareidi school in Charish is the mainly Sephardi Chazon Shimon Talmud Torah and Beis Yaakov. There is also a Mamlachti Chareidi school system. There are also options for schooling in nearby cities, specifically Chadera and Zichron Yaakov.. Since many of the Chareidi families are young, more schools are planning to open in the near future.

Groups & Programs
Community programs, shiurim, and activities can be found in all different subsections of the city.

Housing
All housing in Charish is built in mid-rise apartment buildings. The apartments are new and tend to be spacious and while there are apartments available at affordable prices, the prices are rising every year. A number of the apartment buildings that are being built now are designated for the Charedi population while others will be open to the general market and will host a more mixed population.

The neighborhoods B’Savta and HaPrachim tend to be slightly more expensive while the neighborhood of Choresh and Avnei Chen tend to be slightly more affordable.

General Pricing in Charish (as of November 2022):

Buying

4 rooms (3 bedrooms) ≈ 1.5 million shekels

Renting

4 rooms (3 bedrooms) ≈ 3,000 shekels

Geography & Climate
Charish is located on green hills close to the Iron interchange on Highway 6, at a height of 110 meters above sea level. The city is a driving distance of 10 minutes from Pardes Hanna-Karkur, 15 minutes from Caesarea, 40 minutes from Haifa, 40 minutes from Bnei Brak, 50 minutes from Tel Aviv, and 1 hour 15 minutes to Yerushalayim.

Transportation
Some residents find the public transportation in the area to be convenient and do not feel a car to be a necessity in Charish. Other residents expressed that a car can make a significant difference if living in the city.

There is a bus line that runs every hour to Chadera which is a 20 minutes bus ride and from Chadera there are buses to all areas throughout the country.

In the last few months a bus line began running connecting Charish and Bnei Brak which runs multiple times a day including Fridays and Motzai Shabbat. The bus ride is currently an hour but there is work being done on shortening the commute by creating an express line directly to Bnei Brak. A direct line to Yerushalayim is also in the works.

The community has organized it's own minibus that transports passengers to and from Yerushalayim 3 times a day from a designated pick up point.

Those working in Tel Aviv often take an express bus to Binyamina which takes 25 minutes and from there a train to Tel Aviv.

Employment
A new industrial park set to host a number of companies is under construction in the city. The majority of the residents find their employment in nearby cities such as Ceasarea, Netanya, Pardes Hanna Yokneam, and Hadera. A direct bus line runs to the industrial park in Caesarea 20 minutes away and many residents have been able to find employment there.

Approximately 1,000 Chareidi families moved to Charish in the past year and according to leading members of the community those looking for employment have been successful at finding jobs in nearby cities. Many ganim and schools are looking for teaching staff to fill open positions and English teachers are in high demand in Charish as well.

Shopping
Mayaan 2000, a Chareidi supermarket chain recently opened their second store branch in Charish, located in the neighborhood of Choresh. Their first store branch in the city is located in the neighborhood of Avnei Chen.

There is also Mishnas Yosef initiative in the community. Once a week families can put in an order from a large selection of groceries and a delivery arrives at a central location on a designated day of the week and families come and pick up their order.

The city’s main faraway, Derech Eretz, is lined with retail stores and restaurants.

Medical Services
Community Codes and Standards

Rav Asher Zigdon leads the Sephardi shul and kollel called L’Ovdecha B’Ames.

Tel Zion (Hebrew: תל ציון), established in 1990, is a Chareidi yishuv in the Binyomin region that borders a religious zionist community called Kochav Ya’akov.

Until around 2017 the town was predominantly sefardi, however Rabbi Shalom Koledetzki, seeing the potential for cheaper housing for yungerlite, marketed 400 units to kollel bney torah, shifting the dynamic to a more balanced community, with the Ashkenazim equaling nearer to half of the town's population.

Rabbonim:
Rav Frankenthal, Rav of Kochav Yaakov and Rosh Kollel. Rav Frankenthal is originally from America and was a talmid of Rav Dovid Feinstein zt"l.

By car, it's just over 10 minutes to Ramot and about 20 minutes to the Mir Yeshiva.

Housing
Transportation
It's a 13-14 kilometer drive to Yerushalayim.

There are 3 different bus lines/routes. On busy hours buses run about every 10-15 minutes. It is approximately a 10 to 15-minute bus ride to the shopping mall in Ramot, and a half-hour bus ride to Ramat Eshkol. The local transportation is quick and very reliable.

By car, it's just over 10 minutes to Ramot and about 20 minutes to the Mir Yeshiva.

Though owning a car definitely makes traveling easier, it is not a necessity.
